Austin Harvest Student Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • Summer Program will meet 1 a Week on Mondays during the summer schedule
  • Must be at least 14 for workshop training and 15 to transition to Austin Harvest Business Operation
  • Must be able and flexible to meet Austin Harvest schedule requirements
  • Must maintain grades above 2.5 GPA to be eligible
  • Must bring 3 recommendation letters to open house meeting (personal, school, and by the hand staff)
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and social interactions
  • Must be committed to the mission of serving the Austin community
  • Must have parental support and written consent

6 CURRICULUM OBJECTIVES

There are 6 Target Objective for the Curriculum Design

OBJECTIVE 1

GENERAL BUSINESS PRACTICES

Students will receive education centered around general business.

OBJECTIVE 2

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Students will learn concepts centered around business start-up and ownership.

OBJECTIVE 3

IDEA DEVELOPMENT (SOCIAL JUSTICE)

Students will get experience and practice with idea development and creation with a focus on using business as a form of social justice and problem solving in the community.

BUSINESS PLANNING

Students will get hands-on experience in business planning and development.

OBJECTIVE 5

BUSINESS EXPOSURE

Students will get exposure to successful businesses and owners.

OBJECTIVE 6

COLLABORATION AND ENJOYMENT

Students will participate in fun activities that promote team work and building.

4 CURRICULM REQUIREMENTS

Below are the required components that must be incorporated into the program each term to ensure our objectives are met that we have a well-balanced program.

REQUIREMENT 1

WORKSHOPS BUSINESS EDUCATION

The workshop trainings must be carefully designed to reach our proficiency requirements. Within theses workshops there has to be education and awareness around using business and entrepreneurship for social justice.

The guest speakers will be carefully selected and representative of proper business role models for our students.

OFF-SITE BUSINESS TRIPS

Each month our students will visit selected business establishments that reflect the weekly lessons.

REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETING TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Below are the requirements that are expected for students to complete the summer training and development.

REQUIREMENT 1

ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION

Students are expected to attend and participate workshop training on a consistent basis. Non-excused absences are not permitted. Proper communication is required in advance.

REQUIREMENT 2

PROFESSIONALISM DURING TRAINING

Students are required to be professional and on their best behavior during workshop training. The goal of Austin Harvest is to develop students into professional business leaders and how they participate in workshop training is the first step.

REQUIREMENT 3

ADVANCEMENT AND GROWTH

Students must show growth both personally and professionally. Student growth is important and is essential for this program to be successful. So it is required that students work towards improvement in all areas.

REQUIREMENT 4

STRONG WORK ETHIC AND COMMITTMENT

We are looking to develop students into working professionals that are both committed and have a strong work ethic. As the students undergo this development training we will be assessing their work ethic and also their commitment to themselves and to the program.

REQUIREMENT 5

PARENT PARTICIPATION

Parents are expected to be a part of this experience. Parental involvement is essential. Austin Harvest is a community and parents are a critical component to this community effort towards the development of our students.
